Falgu, Vishnupad, Akshay Vat and Pret Shila

This route joins the four holiest places of Gaya into a single Pind Daan: tarpan on the Falgu, the pind offering at the Vishnupad footprint, the Sufal beneath the eternal Akshay Vat, and the special rite at Pret Shila.

Religious significance of Pind Daan at Pret Shila

Pret Shila - the 'hill of spirits' above Gaya - is prescribed for ancestors who died unnaturally: by accident, by suicide, or before their time. Their souls are held in the pret-yoni, and it is taught that offering pind at Pret Shila releases them from that ghostly state and opens the path to moksha. At the summit stands the temple of Yama, the lord of the departed, built by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar.

When to include Pret Shila in your Pind Daan

For an akal mrityu (accident, suicide or untimely death), Narayan Bali is performed first. The four-place Pind Daan then completes the Pind Daan, with Pret Shila added as the fourth place for the akal mrityu. It is not a replacement for Narayan Bali. For a natural death, the three main places are enough. The Pandaji confirms what your family needs.

Pandit guidance and transport between the four sites

The route begins at Pret Shila, continues to the Falgu and Vishnupad, and concludes at Akshay Vat. The Pandaji guides the rites with the required samagri. Transport between the four sites is charged separately; discuss any assistance needed for the Pret Shila climb before booking.
