The sacred tradition and the rites performed here

Why these three places matter in Gaya Shradh

Falgu River

In Gaya’s tradition, Mata Sita offered pind for King Dasharatha on the Falgu’s banks. The account of her curse is associated with the river flowing beneath its sand. Families offer tarpan and pind daan here in remembrance of their ancestors.

Vishnupad Temple

Vishnupad enshrines the footprint revered as Lord Vishnu’s, associated with the account of him placing his foot on Gayasur’s chest. Pind is offered at the feet of Lord Vishnu, with prayers for the ancestors’ peace and sadgati.

Akshay Vat

Akshay Vat is the sacred banyan that Mata Sita is said to have blessed to remain eternal. In the Gayawal tradition, the family concludes Gaya Shradh here and receives Sufal, the purohit’s blessing at the completion of the rite.

Gaya Shradh vidhi: from sankalp to sufal

The ceremony begins with sankalp in the family’s name and gotra and tarpan at the Falgu. The purohit guides the pinda offerings and worship at Vishnupad, followed by the concluding rites and sufal at Akshay Vat. Your Pandaji confirms the sequence and timing for your date and family tradition.

One-day Pind Daan: how much time to allow

The three-site rite usually takes about 2.5–3.5 hours. Keep additional time for local travel, queues and the needs of elders, especially during Pitru Paksha. Tell us your arrival and return plans before fixing the ceremony. If your family needs assistance with walking or steps, discuss this when booking.

What the ₹5,100 arrangement covers

The price is fixed per family and includes the Gayawal purohit, prescribed vidhi, complete samagri, dakshina and local guidance. A hotel, car or pickup can be arranged separately. Compare the Pind Daan packages or read the total-cost guide to plan the puja and travel budget together.

Three sites, four places or all 45 vedis?

This arrangement covers Falgu, Vishnupad and Akshay Vat. The four-place Pind Daan adds Pret Shila. The three-day Gaya Shradh covers all 45 vedis starting at the Falgu; the 17-day Vrihad Gaya Shradh begins at Punpun and follows a more detailed programme. Discuss the appropriate rite and the time your family can give before choosing.

Details to share before your visit

Share the departed family members’ names, relationships and gotra where known, along with the rites already performed. Tell the purohit who will be the karta and any family customs you follow. Vayu confirms the meeting point and preparation instructions; the samagri guide explains the materials used in the ceremony.
